L&S Preps Students for Career Success

SuccessWorks

SuccessWorks — a seven-year-old service developed by the UW College of Letters & Science and dedicated to students across the university — is transforming its career-advising methods through the support of steadfast donors and deeply committed staff members. The benefits of this program are available to Badgers from the moment they arrive on campus, to create as many opportunities for impact as possible. Over the last year, SuccessWorks has increased first-generation student engagement by 18 percent and total student engagement by 9 percent. Through internship stipends, personalized counseling sessions, increased outreach to underrepresented students, networking with alumni and employers, mock interviews, and more, SuccessWorks is helping thousands of Badgers explore the excitement of planning for their futures.

“When I was doing this work 20 years ago, we tended to see just the students who had it figured out,” shares interim director Angie White. “We see a lot more students now who say, ‘I don’t have any idea what I want to do.’ We aim to make them more comfortable about seeking help with planning.”
